Nigerian central midfielder joins Real Sociedad after release by Arsenal

Spanish La Liga club Real Sociedad are on the brink of announcing the signing of quad-national central midfielder Zac Shuaib, who is eligible to represent Nigeria, England, Spain and India at international level.

According to The BBC, Shuaib is set to join Real Sociedad following the expiration of his contract with Arsenal in June.

Shuaib, who is of Gipuzkoan descent through his mother, is expected to join Sociedad's C team, which will compete in the Tercera Federación – Group 4 next season.

The central midfielder has strong ties to the Basque region, having spent several summers in Hondarribia and maintaining family connections there, particularly through his grandparents.

Despite a challenging year in which he recovered from a serious injury, Shuaib managed to make five appearances in the U18 Premier League in his final season at Arsenal.

The 18-year-old attracted interest from several clubs and underwent a trial with Brighton & Hove Albion before ultimately choosing to join Real Sociedad.

Following a successful trial, during which he featured for Real Sociedad in the MIC Football tournament in Girona last April, Shuaib has been offered a contract by the club.

Shuaib's football journey began at the age of seven with Chiswick Youth.

He went on to represent Hanwell FC, Focus Football, London Colney Colts and Tottenham Hotspur before joining Arsenal’s prestigious Hale End Academy in March 2022.
