Official: First Nigerian to score and assist on UCL debut joins MLS club Real Salt Lake

With a statement on the official website, Czech First League giants Sparta Prague have announced that history-making Nigerian forward Victor Olatunji has left the club for good.

The 25-year-old is transferring to Major League Soccer, where he will represent Real Salt Lake.

History was made on September 18, 2024 as Olatunji became the first Nigerian player to score and provide an assist on his Champions League debut.

Olatunji found the net in the 42nd minute and later set up Qazim Laci to seal a commanding 3-0 win.

He joined Sparta Prague from Slovan Liberec in the summer of 2023 and wasted no time making his mark in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers.

The Nigerian forward opened his account for the club with a debut goal against FC Copenhagen, though his effort ultimately proved insufficient to secure Sparta a place in the Champions League play-offs.

In total, Olatunji made 93 competitive appearances for Sparta, scoring 20 goals and providing 6 assists.

Nicknamed Sanogo, the forward turned out for Inter Bratislava, Zeleziarne Podbrezova, Mattersburg, Alki Oroklini and AEK Larnaca before he was acquired by Sparta Prague.

Olatunji joins Nigerian duo William Agada and Emeka Eneli at Real Salt Lake.
