'Even Tosin can do the job' – Chelsea legend Leboeuf backs 27yo to step up after Colwill's injury
Published: August 09, 2025
Chelsea legend Frank Leboeuf has tipped 27-year-old central defender Tosin Adarabioyo to step into the void left by the injured Levi Colwill ahead of the 2025/26 season.
Colwill, a standout performer in the Blues’ backline last term, suffered a devastating anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during training shortly after returning from the summer break.
The setback is expected to sideline the 22-year-old England international for most of the upcoming season, dealing a major blow to Chelsea’s defensive plans.
Speaking while analysing the Blues’ 2-0 pre-season win over Bayer Leverkusen on Friday night, the French World Cup winner backed both Tosin and Trevoh Chalobah to rise to the challenge.
"It does because I will say he was the most experienced player compared to the others. He had a great season and was leading the defense,” Leboeuf said on ESPN FC.
"But I believe that players like Trevoh Chalobah and Tosin Adarabioyo can do the job.
"It is a big blow because Colwill has proven that he's a real talented player and can have a bright future.
"Chalobah was called back from Crystal Palace last season and did very well until the rest of the season. Even Tosin can do the job."
Tosin, who joined on a free transfer from Fulham last summer, enjoyed a decent debut season at Stamford Bridge, demonstrating both defensive composure and a willingness to contribute in attack.
As the new campaign approaches, the former Manchester City defender will be determined to build on that foundation and step up in Colwill’s absence.
