'Sounds weird' – Dessers urges Rangers fans to show support after back-to-back Premiership draws
Published: August 10, 2025
Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers has called on Rangers supporters to stand firmly behind the team after back-to-back Scottish Premiership draws extended their winless start to the season.
The Nigerian international’s appeal came in the wake of Saturday’s 1-1 stalemate against Dundee, a result that followed last week’s disappointing draw with Motherwell.
Rangers, who were hoping for a strong opening to their league campaign, have now dropped four points in the opening two league games.
Dessers stressed the importance of unity during this challenging period.
"We're all we're all in this together. The team, the club, the fans, and we need each other as well," Dessers was quoted as saying by The Daily Record.
"It maybe sounds weird, but we need the fans to give us maybe not the patience or the time, but to help us when we give a difficult pass or we try to dribble or we try a shot, to encourage that and appreciate that, because we do it with a goal."
Dessers also highlighted the electric atmosphere at Ibrox during the week’s European fixture and challenged the team to replicate that in domestic games.
"But yeah, it's also for us on a night, like we had during the week, it's nice to give something back to these fans, give a good performance, give a good win.
"This is the only way that this can grow again. Ibrox was rocking this week.
"It's unbelievable, and we need to go to that place as well in the league games so that Ibrox is rocking as well,” he added.
Amid ongoing transfer speculation linking him with a move to Greek champions AEK Athens, Dessers, last season’s top scorer in the Premiership, remains focused on helping Rangers get back on track.
The 30-year-old will be hoping to inspire a turnaround when the Gers face Viktoria Plzen in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League qualifier.
