After missing out on Akpom, Samsunspor interested in Sevilla forward Iheanacho

Turkish club Samsunspor have turned their attention to Kelechi Iheanacho after failing to land Chuba Akpom, who recently joined Ipswich Town on loan.

Iheanacho, who joined Sevilla as a free agent from Leicester City last summer, has endured a difficult spell in La Liga, struggling to establish himself in Spain’s top flight.

In search of a fresh start, the Nigerian international joined Middlesbrough on loan in the winter transfer market, but his time in the Championship failed to yield the resurgence in form he had hoped for.

According to Spanish outlet Estadio Deportivo, the Red Lightning are keen on bringing Iheanacho to bolster their attack ahead of a busy campaign that will see them compete in the UEFA Europa League, following their third-place finish in the Turkish Süper Lig last season.

Samsunspor are not alone in the chase, with Besiktas and Mexican side Pumas UNAM also monitoring the situation.

Meanwhile, Sevilla are reportedly open to letting the 28-year-old leave this summer to free up space in their squad registration for the new season.

With just three days to go before the start of the season, Iheanacho’s future remains unresolved.

The forward will be eager to secure regular playing time to reignite his career and boost his chances of earning a recall to the Super Eagles squad ahead of the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers in September.
