Doncaster Rovers boss hails Spurs loanee Ajayi for 'outstanding' goal in win v Middlesbrough
Published: August 13, 2025
Doncaster Rovers manager Grant McCann has singled out the strike from Tottenham Hotspur loanee Damola Ajayi during their 4-0 victory over Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.
Ajayi scored the second goal in the 23rd minute at the Riverside Stadium, firing a left-footed shot into the back of the net following a brilliant team move.
The strike was his first across all competitions since making his loan move from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer window.
Speaking during his post-match reaction, McCann expressed excitement with the four goals but singled out Ajayi's strike, citing the excellent combination from his teammates.
"I am pleased with all the goals that we scored. They are good finishes," McCann told Doncaster Rovers YouTube channel.
"The second one was an outstanding one. The first and second ones were two good goals in terms of the build-up."
Ajayi enjoyed a stellar 2024/2025 campaign with Tottenham Hotspur, playing a fringe part in the team that secured the UEFA Europa League title at the San Mames stadium.
Having opened his account, the 19-year-old will look to build on the momentum and persuade the manager to hand him more playing time to prove himself in League One.
