'Smart addition' – Pundit urges Leicester City to sign Man Utd striker Chido Obi

Football writer and podcaster Declan Harte has urged Championship side Leicester City to target Manchester United youngster Chido Obi for a season-long loan this summer.

Writing for Football League World (FLW), Harte noted the Foxes’ struggles in the transfer market and described the 17-year-old forward as a smart addition to bolster their promotion bid.

Despite the departures of Mads Hermansen and Wilfred Ndidi, Leicester remain hampered by Profit and Sustainability Rule (PSR) restrictions, limiting their ability to strengthen in attack.

The Foxes currently have only Patson Daka as a recognised striker, leaving the squad thin in attack.

In the publication, Harte urged the club’s management to think creatively and explore loan signings as a short-term solution to their financial challenges.

Harte identified 17-year-old Obi as a prime target, praising his potential and recent form at Old Trafford since joining from Arsenal last summer.

"Someone like Obi Martin could be worth taking a gamble on as the upside could be quite high, while the risk of a disappointing loan stint is all on Man United’s shoulders," he noted.

Harte added: "The Premier League club will be keeping a very keen eye on how he performs if he goes on loan, and there will be an expectation that he plays regularly.

"But it could be the kind of smart move that helps Cifuentes’ team contend for the top spots in the Championship this year."

As it stands, Manchester United have no plans to loan out Obi Martin this summer despite earlier speculation linking the Denmark U21 international of Nigerian descent with a move to OGC Nice.
