Boniface replacement? Leverkusen interested in Newcastle's Super Eagles-eligible forward
Published: August 23, 2025
Bayer Leverkusen are assessing potential replacements for Victor Boniface, whose transfer to Serie A giants AC Milan is edging closer, pending the outcome of extended medical examinations.
The Nigeria international underwent further checks on Saturday as Milan's medical team exercised caution before finalising a loan deal with an option to buy.
Concerns stem from Boniface's injury record, having twice suffered cruciate ligament ruptures earlier in his career.
According to Sky Sport Germany transfer expert Florian Plettenberg, Newcastle United forward William Osula has emerged as a possible target for Leverkusen.
The Denmark U21 international of Nigerian descent is attracting interest from Bundesliga clubs but any move would hinge on Boniface completing his proposed switch to the Rossoneri.
Osula has struggled for minutes since joining Newcastle from Sheffield United in the summer of 2024.
He started just three games last season, all in domestic cup competitions, and has featured for only one minute in the current campaign.
The striker remains under contract at St James' Park until June 30, 2029, but could be allowed to leave in search of regular first-team football.
