Hellas Verona target Rangers striker ahead of possible cap-tying appearance for Nigeria next month
Published: August 25, 2025
Cyriel Dessers is attracting late transfer interest from Italian Serie A side Hellas Verona before the summer window closes in September.
Dessers, who emerged as the Scottish Premiership's top scorer last season, has been one of Rangers' standout performers and remains the subject of strong transfer speculation following his prolific 2024/2025 campaign.
The 30-year-old had previously been linked with a switch to Greece, where AEK Athens tabled a €4.5 million bid that fell short of Rangers' €5 million valuation.
Negotiations broke down as both clubs failed to reach a financial agreement.
According to Calcio Mercato, Hellas Verona are now monitoring Dessers' situation closely.
The Gialloblù are exploring the possibility of a loan deal with an obligation to buy next summer, with reports suggesting they are prepared to commit around £3.5 million.
Rangers are believed to be open to selling but remain firm on their valuation.
Born in Tongeren, Dessers, a former Belgium U21 invitee, has won eight caps for Nigeria, scoring three goals.
However, as all of those appearances came in friendly matches, he remains eligible to switch allegiance to Belgium, the country of his birth.
The Rangers striker has been included in Nigeria's 31-man provisional squad for next month’s 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa.
Should he make the final list and feature in either fixture, he would be officially cap-tied to the Super Eagles.
Dessers has Serie A experience, scoring six goals in 26 games for Cremonese during the 2022-2023 season.
