'Iwobi is the star man' – Sky Sports journalist backs Fulham ace to play key role v Chelsea
Published: August 30, 2025
Sky Sports football journalist Patrick Rowe has tipped Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi to be a decisive figure for Fulham in their clash against Chelsea on Saturday afternoon.
Since joining from Everton, Iwobi has enjoyed an impressive spell with the Cottagers, registering 15 goals and nine assists across all competitions.
Rowe, while previewing the game, praised Marco Silva's attacking options and their ability to dominate possession, stressing that Iwobi's creativity could be crucial to Fulham's chances.
"Fulham are solid defensively and have the talent to flood forward on the counterattack or dictate the play with possession," he said on Sky Sports.
Going further, he pointed out that the Nigerian midfielder will be central to Fulham's ability to control possession and also praised the impressive display of youngster Joshua King in their clash against Manchester United.
"Alex Iwobi is the star man but I was particularly impressed by 18-year-old Joshua King in that fixture. Heaps of talent and has the confidence to go along with it. I'm expecting a close game today."
The Nigerian international, alongside Calvin Bassey, was named in Fulham's starting lineup against Chelsea on Saturday at Craven Cottage.
With the Cottagers still searching for their first win of the 2025/26 campaign, Iwobi will be eager to deliver a standout performance before joining up with Nigeria for international duty.
The 29-year-old recently earned a place in the Super Eagles' 23-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Rwanda in September.
He will be looking to carry his club form into the national team setup to help Nigeria secure crucial victories and keep their World Cup qualification hopes alive.
