No going back: Leverkusen's Boniface joins Werder Bremen on loan without option to buy
Published: September 01, 2025
Allnigeriasoccer.com can report with certainty that Werder Bremen and Bayer Leverkusen have reached a club-to-club agreement for the transfer of Victor Boniface.
The 24-year-old, who has already agreed personal terms with Bremen, will join the four-time Bundesliga champions on loan for the remainder of the 2025-2026 season.
It is understood that the deal is a straight loan with no option to buy included.
Boniface had been seeking regular playing opportunities after limited involvement at Leverkusen since the second half of last season.
He will now link up with compatriot Felix Agu and Swiss-German-Nigerian defender Isaac Schmidt at the Weserstadion.
The Nigeria international had previously come close to securing moves elsewhere, with a proposed loan switch to AC Milan collapsing at the last minute, while a January transfer to Saudi side Al-Nassr fell through after the Pro League club opted instead for Aston Villa striker Jhon Durán.
Boniface has been a standout performer since moving to Germany, contributing 43 goals — 32 scored and 12 assisted — in 61 appearances.
His impressive debut campaign saw him named Bundesliga Rookie of the Season, having won the monthly honour in four consecutive months between August and November 2023.
A product of Real Sapphire, Boniface remains contracted to Bayer Leverkusen until June 30, 2028.
