2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations-winning forward Rinsola Babajide has taken to social media to pay tribute to former Liverpool Women manager Matt Beard, who tragically passed away at the age of 47.

Babajide played under Matt Beard at Liverpool, where she spent four years before sealing a permanent transfer to Real Betis.

Beard first managed Liverpool Women in 2012, guiding them to two WSL titles and their debut Champions League campaign.

After spells with Boston Breakers, West Ham and Bristol City, he returned to the Reds in 2021, immediately securing the Championship title and promotion back to the WSL.

He departed Liverpool in February, leaving behind a legacy of memorable moments and significant contributions across multiple spells.

Reacting to the passing away of Beard, Liverpool FC Women's 2019-20 Player of the Season, Babajide wrote on X: "R.I.P Matt Beard, my condolences to his friends and family."

Liverpool's Women's Super League fixture against Aston Villa today has been postponed following the death of Beard.

Liverpool will pay tribute to Beard at today's Premier League 2 fixture at the Academy.

A minute’s silence will be held in Kirkby before kickoff, with players set to wear black armbands in his memory.
