Wolverhampton Wanderers coach rates and slates Arokodare after first goal in English football
Published: September 24, 2025
Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Vitor Pereira offered a mixed assessment of Tolu Arokodare after the Nigeria international netted his first goal in English football on Tuesday night.
The deadline day signing from Racing Genk was on the scoresheet as Wolves defeated Everton 2-0 to advance to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.
With three minutes left on the clock, Arokodare lifted his effort over the Toffees goalkeeper to double Wolves' advantage after a great through ball from Joao Gomes.
It took the Super Eagles star 174 minutes spread across three matches in all competitions to score his first goal in Wolverhampton Wanderers colours.
Pereira commended Arokodare for the impact he made after coming off the bench, but stressed that the striker still has work to do in order to reach the physical levels required for English football.
Asked for his thoughts on Arokodare's goal, Pereira told Wolves' official webpage: "When we are expecting a strong shot on the goal, because he has the confidence in himself.
"Of course, he is not in his shape physically speaking. Larsen today worked a lot for the team, and after Tolu went inside and he helped us. This is the spirit that I want to see.”
Pereira admitted that Arokodare is still short of match sharpness but stressed that the Nigerian has the attributes to become an important figure for Wolves once he reaches tiptop condition.
"Tolu came in the moment that we didn't have Jorgen to play. The plan was not to play with him 90 minutes, the plan was to give him time to adapt and to start getting minutes.
"He needs to work hard to get his condition, and he will help us."
Wolves will discover their fourth round opponents in the Carabao Cup when the draw takes place on Wednesday night.
