What Sevilla striker Akor Adams said after scoring first La Liga goal

Sevilla striker Akor Adams has expressed his joy after netting his first La Liga goal in the club's 1-0 victory over Rayo Vallecano on Sunday.

The Nigerian forward, who came off the bench in the second half, struck three minutes from time to seal the win at the Estadio de Vallecas.

Adams latched onto a cross from Spanish full-back José Ángel Carmona to complete a swift counter-attack, sending Sevilla fans into celebration.

Speaking after the match, the 25-year-old praised the team’s resilience and fighting spirit in securing all three points.

"Before I talk about myself, I think it was a great game from the team, with a strong fight and a good mentality," he told reporters after the game.

The Nigerian striker said he was ready to make an impact despite starting the game on the bench.

"I had the opportunity to come on, I was prepared and working hard, and I'm very grateful for the opportunity.

"We didn't give up. We have a top mentality in the group. The coach has confidence in what we can do, and it shows in the games."

The goal is Akor Adams’ first in La Liga since joining Sevilla from Montpellier during the last winter transfer window.

The former Flying Eagles forward endured a difficult start to life in Spain, battling injuries in his opening six months and facing further setbacks at the beginning of this campaign.

Now off the mark, Adams will take confidence from his breakthrough strike and will be eager to build on it as he looks to meet expectations and cement his place in the team.
