Fifa U20 WC Nigeria v Saudi Arabia: Antwerp chief Overmars to scout Chelsea target Kamaldeen

Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report with certainty that Marc Overmars, Technical Director at Belgian Pro League side Royal Antwerp FC, will attend the match between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia at the FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile.

The former Arsenal midfielder will be at the stadium to monitor the performance of Nigerian midfielder Abduljelil Mustapha Kamaldeen, who has attracted interest from top European clubs.

Kamaldeen first made an impression with his cameo performance in Nigeria’s opening game, a 1-0 defeat to Norway at the Estadio Fiscal de Talca.

The Kwara Football Academy product replaced Salihu Nasiru in the final twelve minutes, with the Flying Eagles pushing for an equalizer in the closing stages of the match.

His introduction helped Aliyu Zubairu’s side maintain pressure in the closing minutes of the match, and they almost had a chance to restore parity.

However, the referee denied Nigeria a penalty after a Video Assistant Referee review.

The 16-year-old has also attracted interest from Belgian club Anderlecht and Premier League Club Chelsea.

The Blues have recently built a reputation for investing in young players with a view to a pathway to the first team and higher economic values in a few years.

Kamaldeen, known for his creativity, intelligence, and ability to control things in midfield, has been likened to Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi and Nigeria icon Austin Jay-Jay Okocha.

With lots of interest in the young midfielder, Kamaldeen will hope to feature and impress as Nigeria aims for a victory to revive hopes of qualification to the knockout stage.
