Argentina's fantastic four: The dangermen Flying Eagles must silence in Fifa U20 World Cup clash
Published: October 08, 2025
Nigeria's Flying Eagles face a monumental challenge today as they clash with hosts Argentina in the Round of 16 at the FIFA U20 World Cup Chile 2025.
Aliyu Zubairu's men will need tactical discipline and sharp defending to halt an Argentine team full of technical brilliance and youthful flair.
Under coach Diego Placente, Argentina have been dominant, winning all three group games, including a 1-0 triumph over Italy and a convincing 4-1 victory against Australia.
Here are four Argentine players the Flying Eagles must pay close attention to:
Alejo Sarco: The Bayer Leverkusen starlet is the joint leading scorer in the competition with three goals.
A modern day forward, rather than a traditional target man, Sarco combines speed, technical skill, assertiveness, good finishing and mobility.
Alvaro Montoro: The 18-year-old playmaker is Argentina’s engine in midfield. He came close to scoring against Australia when his fierce strike rattled the crossbar.
Montoro excels at dictating tempo, pressing high, and linking attack with defense.
Maher Carrizo: The 19-year-old forward from Vélez Sarsfield brings a powerful combination of strength and precision. Carrizo has been involved in key attacking plays, including setting up chances during the win over Australia. A natural finisher with aerial prowess.
Ian Subiabre: River Plate's 18-year-old striker has emerged as Argentina's top performers, scoring against Cuba and Australia.
His movement in the box and instinctive finishing make him a constant danger, especially late in matches when defenders tire.
For Nigeria, victory would seal a historic quarterfinal berth, but to get there, Zubairu's side must first contain these Argentine prodigies who have lit up the tournament so far.
