Benin coach Rohr sends message to CAF before WCQs against Wasps and Super Eagles
Published: October 08, 2025
Benin's Cheetahs coach Gernot Rohr has urged the Confederation of African Football to uphold sporting fairness as the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifying campaign enters its decisive stage.
The experienced German tactician appealed for uniformity in scheduling, stressing that all matches should be played simultaneously to preserve the integrity of the competition.
Ahead of Friday's fixtures, the Cheetahs top the Group C standings with 14 points, the same as South Africa, who have an inferior goal difference, and three points more than the Super Eagles, whom they will face in a potentially decisive clash at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on October 14.
Benin will take on Rwanda's Wasps at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali before their trip to the Akwa Ibom State capital.
The former Super Eagles boss believes simultaneous kickoffs are vital to ensuring that no team benefits from prior knowledge of other results, which could influence tactics or motivation.
In quotes related by Mega Sports, Rohr stated: "We hope that all matches will be played at the same time to avoid certain teams having an advantage by knowing the results before playing".
Four nations South Africa, Benin, Nigeria and Rwanda are still in the running, at least on paper, for automatic qualification to the 2026 Fifa World Cup to be staged across Canada, Mexico and the United States.
The Super Eagles are in danger of missing consecutive World Cups for the first time in over three decades, unless they secure victories in their final two qualifiers and other results swing in their favour.
