No January move expected for Everton midfielder Iroegbunam despite ongoing speculation
Published: November 19, 2025
Everton midfielder Tim Iroegbunam is expected to remain at the Hill Dickinson Stadium beyond the January transfer window despite persistent reports linking him with a move away from the club.
The 22-year-old, who arrived from Aston Villa in a £9 million deal in the summer of 2024, had been widely rumoured to be on the club’s potential outgoing list.
It was suggested that Everton were open to sanctioning a sale, and even considering a loan deal, as part of a broader squad reshuffle.
Some claims even indicated the Toffees were willing to accept a cut-price fee, potentially taking a loss on their investment.
However, despite the transfer speculation, Iroegbunam remains an important figure in the squad as David Moyes continues his efforts to rebuild the team.
According to the Liverpool Echo, the manager has shown strong backing for the Super Eagles-eligible midfielder, demonstrated through his consistent involvement and the trust reflected in his minutes on the pitch.
Iroegbunam has made eight Premier League appearances so far this season, starting four and coming off the bench in another four, amassing 341 minutes of football.
He has also featured in two League Cup matches, playing a combined 102 minutes and earning one start.
The young midfielder is also poised to play a key role as Everton prepare for the temporary absence of Idrissa Gueye and Iliman Ndiaye during the Africa Cup of Nations.
Internationally, Iroegbunam has represented England at U19 and U20 levels but remains eligible to play for Nigeria as he has yet to make a senior appearance for the Three Lions.
Meanwhile, Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle would welcome the midfielder’s decision to commit to the Super Eagles as he looks to rebuild the squad in the aftermath of their exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
