Galatasaray striker Osimhen plays down hamstring injury ahead of MRI scan

Victor Osimhen issued a reassuring update on his fitness after returning to Turkey following the injury he sustained in Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup African playoff final against DR Congo on Sunday.

The Galatasaray striker, who was forced to leave the match due to discomfort, arrived for further medical checks and is set to undergo an MRI to determine the full extent of the issue.

Speaking to A Spor upon his arrival, Osimhen downplayed concerns regarding the severity of the injury.

"My condition is not very serious,” he said, as quoted by Haberhurriyeti, offering a positive indication ahead of the scheduled scan.

The MRI results will clarify the situation and guide Galatasaray's next steps in managing the striker’s recovery.

Osimhen has been instrumental for Galatasaray this season, delivering consistent goal-scoring performances and commanding the front line with authority.

He has registered nine goals in 12 appearances across all competitions.

The Nigerian forward's statement comes as both club and national team supporters await updates following the DR Congo match, where his early exit raised immediate concerns.

The upcoming medical evaluation is expected to provide definitive information on his availability for the upcoming fixtures.
