Lille Ponder Bid For Nigeria's Lillian Thuram, Godfrey Oboabona

Lille are in the mix to land the highly rated Super Eagles central defender Godfrey Oboabona, who is being hailed as Nigeria's Lillian Thuram, allnigeriasoccer.com can confirm.

But the French team face competition from clubs in the Ukrainian Premier League led by Metallurg Donetsk.

Indeed, Godfrey Oboabona, who skippers domestic club Sunshine Stars, has been a long term target for manager Rudi Garcia.

It is understood that the 22 - year - old stopper has been on Lille's radar even before he rose to prominence at the 2013 African Cup of Nations.

Top European agent, who is close to the Lille hierarchy, told allnigeriasoccer.com: '' I can confirm to you that Lille are interested in Godfrey Oboabona.

''I personally informed the chief scout who is responsible for recruitment, of Godfrey before the start of the Nations Cup.

''Two million euros for the defender is out of reach especially since this is the first time he is leaving Africa even if I am convinced he is a very good player.''

There is a possibility that Lille will not offer a trial to Godfrey Oboabona since he has been followed for close to six months.

''He could be tested, but this is not conclusive. Lille's interest is very genuine because Aurélien Chedjou is likely to leave the club in the summer transfer market.

''But Oboabona is not the only defender that is wanted by Lille. If Sunshine Stars are dreaming of making big money from Oboabona, this is not close to market reality,'' the agent said.
