French-Born Defender Yannick Will Not Reject Nigeria Call Up; Names Okocha As His Idol
Published: April 23, 2016
Danish-based defender Yannick Iwunze has said that he will not reject a call up to the Super Eagles but admitted that he is yet to make up his mind on which national team to represent.
Born in France 23 years ago to Nigerian parents, the fullback can represent France, Nigeria and the United States having lived in the North American country for eleven years.
“I am not sure, I haven’t made a decision on that just yet. I still have a lot of work to do to get to that level but if God permits,I will get there one day! God is in control and He is my main focus,” Iwunze told allnigeriasoccer.com.
“There is no way I will reject a call up to the Nigeria national team if I am invited.”
Iwunze remains a fan of Paris Saint-Germain after following the exploits of retired Nigeria international Austin Okocha while he was on the books of the capital team.
“Jay Jay Okocha is my all time favorite player, I watched him when I was young living in Paris and he is the reason why I am still until today a PSG fan,” he added.
A product of Houston Dynamo Academy, he penned a deal with Jammerbught FC in March and was linked with a move to AC Horsens before agreeing terms with his present club.
