Official : Arsenal Coach's Son Joins New Mikel, Ugbo At Chelsea Academy
Published: July 01, 2017
English Premier League champions Chelsea are on the brink of announcing the capture of highly-rated central defender Ethan Ampadu.
Exeter City have confirmed via their official website that the 16-year-old has put pen to paper on a deal at Stamford Bridge, and the Blues are currently in negotiations over a financial compensation as he is a product of The Grecians Academy.
Ampadu had been permitted to negotiate with other clubs this summer having not signed scholarship forms with the League Two side.
Born in Exeter, the teenager is eligible to represent Wales, England, Ireland and Ghana at senior level, and has caps for the Young Lions and Young Dragons.
His father, Kwame Ampadu, represented Arsenal before hanging up his boots and now coaches the Gunners U18 squad.
Ethan Ampadu will likely be added to Chelsea Development Squad, a team that paraded Ike Ugbo and Fikayo Tomori last season.
England U18 international Tariq Uwakwe, labelled the new Obi Mikel, debuted for the Blues U23 squad last season, and will be more involved with the team in the forthcoming season.
