Chelsea Have Earned N182B From Players Sales, Will Make N1.4B From Golden Ball Winner
Published: July 02, 2017
Chelsea are making a huge profit from the sale of their fringe players and reserves over the last few seasons.
Approximately 400 million pounds has been added to the Blues income statement in the last three years years from their sale of players declared surplus to requirements.
They are expected to receive at least £3 million (N1.4 billion) as training compensation following the transfer of England U20 star Dominic Solanke to Liverpool, and that figure could rise to £10 million if the tribunal listens to Chelsea argument on their valuation of the striker.
Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel left Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window without Chelsea getting a transfer fee, but the Premier League champions saved millions of pounds after getting him off their wage bill.
Chelsea have also shown good business acumen by loaning out players, for example, Turkish Super Lig side Alanyaspor footed a large chunk of Kenneth Omeruo's salary plus bonuses last season.
The highest transfer fees Chelsea received was from the sale of Oscar to Shanghai SIPG in the winter transfer market, with the Chinese club coughing up £60 million to sign the Brazil star.
