Wolfsburg Super Talent Uduokhai Open To Playing For Nigeria Ahead Of World Cup
Published: January 11, 2018
Wolfsburg super kid Felix Uduokhai has refused to rule out the
possibility of representing the Super Eagles ahead of the 2018 World
Cup, and this will be good news for manager Gernot Rohr who is scouring
Europe for a central defender to bolster his squad.
Annaberg-Buchholz-born Uduokhai is eligible to represent Nigeria through his father and has caps for Germany at U19 and U20 levels and is not hiding his roots even though his mother is German.
''I have not been to Nigeria often yet, but I talk a lot about it with my dad, and have family there. That's where my roots lie, it's important to me to stay neutral, '' Uduokhai said in an interview with Kicker.
''Of course, the German national team is the top in world football, but also Nigeria is well staffed. Currently, I'm really open to both sides.''
The Nigeria Football Federation have set the wheels in motion to cap Uduokhai but could end up in a tug-of-war with Germany, with U21 boss Stefan Kuntz also interested in the services of the former 1860 Munich starlet.
He was handed a maiden call-up to Germany's U21 national team earlier this season but pulled out of the squad due to injury.
''I would be happy (to get another call-up), then I would definitely go,'' added Uduokhai.
Felix Uduokhai last wore a Germany shirt on March 28, 2017 when the U20s lost 2-1 to Switzerland .
