Lookman Benched As Argentina Manager Watches Tottenham Star At Wembley
Published: January 13, 2018
England U21 star of Nigerian descent Ademola Lookman was a non-playing substitute as Everton were thrashed 4-0 by Tottenham Hotspur at the National Stadium in London on Saturday evening.
Argentina manager Jorge Sampaoli was among the 76, 251 spectators that watched the game at Wembley.
Sampaoli didn't travel to the English capital for tourism purposes as he came to monitor and hold talks with Spurs number eleven Erik Lamela, before naming his squad for pre-World Cup friendlies against Spain and Italy in March.
Ole Argentina has also reported that the coach of the two-time world champions will meet with Manchester City's Sergio Agüero, Manchester United pair Sergio Romero and Marcos Rojo, and West Ham midfielder Manuel Lanzini.
Jorge Sampaoli could only watch Lamela for three minutes after he came off the bench in the second half.
The former River Plate wonderkid has not played for the Argentine national team since his last appearance against Venezuela in September 2016.
Nigeria will face off with Argentina for the fifth time in the group stage of the World Cup at Krestovsky Stadium, Saint Petersburg on June 26, 2018.
Son Heung-Min, Harry Kane (2) and Christian Eriksen were on target in Spurs' win over the Toffees.
