Tammy Abraham Rules Out Playing For Nigeria In March Friendlies Vs Poland, Serbia
Published: February 08, 2018
Tammy Abraham's heart is still with England and has strongly hinted that he will turn down an invitation to the Nigeria national team ahead of the 2018 World Cup, saying he wants to represent the Three Lions during the next Fifa window in March.
With two caps to his name in friendlies against Germany and Brazil, the Chelsea loanee can only be cap-tied to England national team in the next five months if he is selected by Gareth Southgate for the World Cup and makes his competitive debut in Russia.
Abraham picked up the Man of the Match accolade in Swansea's 8-1 rout of Notts County in the Emirates FA Cup two days ago thanks to his two goals and two assists for the Welsh side.
''It’s a good time to start scoring – the England games next month are at the back of my mind,'' Abraham was quoted as saying by The Mirror UK.
''I know I have to give a performance to get back in the team whenever I’m given the chance, I have to keep proving myself and that’s what I’m willing to do. Harry Kane came from nowhere to get to the Euros.
''Now I’m back, I’d obviously love to do that.''
Nigeria Football Federation supremo Amaju Pinnick had claimed he was close to securing the services of Tammy Abraham after a meeting with the player and his representatives in London last year, only for the striker to rubbish claims he was interested in representing the Super Eagles.
