Rohr Sticks With Injured Awaziem, Nantes Defender Named In Latest Nigeria Squad
Published: February 16, 2018
Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr is sticking with Porto loanee Chidozie Awaziem despite the fact that the central defender has been inactive for his French club Nantes in their last five matches across all competitions.
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Awaziem has received an invitation from the Nigeria Football Federation to report at Radisson Hotel in Wroclaw on Monday, 19th March ahead of pre-World Cup friendlies against Poland and Serbia.
The 21-year-old's last appearance for Nantes was against Toulouse on January 17 and since then he has been battling to overcome a thigh injury.
In his three appearances for the national team, he went the full ninety against Togo, South Africa and Argentina.
Meanwhile, Rohr is expected to make some slight changes to the roster that will face Poland and Serbia.
At this moment, Hapoel Beer Sheva striker Anthony Nwakaeme, who was called up for November's games against Algeria and Argentina, has yet to receive an invitation from the Nigerian Federation.
Players and officials of the Super Eagles will depart Poland for London on Saturday 24th March for the match against Serbia at the Hive Stadium.
