Tottenham Hotspur's Nigerian Goalkeeper Keeps Clean Sheet Against Chelsea
Published: August 25, 2018
Talented Nigerian goalkeeper Joshua Oluwayemi showed why he is highly rated by the youth team coaches at Tottenham Hotspur after keeping a clean sheet in their 2-0 win over the national champions Chelsea on Saturday afternoon.
Having conceded four goals in their opening U18 Premier League fixture against Brighton, Spurs have improved defensively thanks to Oluwayemi who was brought into the side in place of Jonathan De Bie and has conceded only once in the last two matches, against Swansea City in a 5-1 win.
In a first half dominated by Tottenham Hotspur, a goal from Paris Maghoma separated the two London teams at the break, before Shashoua doubled the advantage in the 72nd minute.
Oluwayemi had to intervene on at least two occasions to prevent Chelsea from scoring in the second half, he denied Lewis with an acrobatic save before saving a shot from substitute Rankine in the closing minutes.
The 17-year-old has represented England at U15 and U16 level and his sibling Tobi, who is also a goalkeeper, is on the books of Tottenham too.
A product of Emerson Park Academy, Oluwayemi is in the second year of his scholarship with the North London club.
