Ex-Arsenal Star Ajayi, Idowu Not In Eagles 18; Aina, Success Bench; Rohr Opts For 4-2-1-3 Formation
Published: October 13, 2018Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has dropped six players from the match day squad for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya, including Trabzonspor's Eddy Onazi on account of injury.
The remaining five players that will not get game time at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium are : Chippa United goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi, ex-Arsenal U23 skipper Semi Ajayi, Chidozie Awaziem (Porto), Brian Idowu (Lokomotiv Moscow) and Moses Simon (Levante).
Rohr has named three strikers in the shape of Everton loanee Henry Onyekuru, Leicester City's Kelechi Iheanacho and Watford's Isaac Success on the bench, while John Ogu is the only midfielder amongst the substitutes.
Chelsea loanees Kenneth Omeruo and Ola Aina are the two defenders named on the bench, and Enyimba's Ikechukwu Ezenwa completes the seven substitutes.
Rohr has decided to use a 4-2-1-3 formation developed by Manchester United coach Jose Mourinho during his time with Inter Milan.
Arsenal's Alex Iwobi will play as the 1 and is not expected to help out in defense but will take up play-making responsibilities.
Ahmed Musa and Samuel Kalu will help the fullbacks Abdullahi Shehu and Jamilu Collins when the Super Eagles are defending wide attacks.
