AFCONQ RSA Vs Nigeria : Henry Has 7 Days Left To Prove His Fitness, Everton Loanee Starts Jogging
Published: October 26, 2018Everton loanee Henry Onyekuru is racing against the clock to prove his fitness ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between South Africa and Nigeria on November 17 after suffering an injury in his last international match vs Libya.
Turkish Super Lig club Galatasaray had reported that the winger suffered a second degree of strain and bleeding in the left upper back muscle but it appears the injury is not as bad as first feared.
Onyekuru has started individual training as he looks to recover from the ailment and was pictured jogging during training on Thursday and Friday.
It would be a miracle if he is named to the match day squad against Yeni Malatyaspor on Sunday.
If Onyekuru is omitted from the Galatasaray squad for the Istanbul derby against Fenerbahçe on November 2, his dreams of earning his fifth international cap against Bafana Bafana might go up in smoke.
Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr is expected to decide on the players to be called up for the qualifier against South Africa after the round of league matches ending November 5 in Europe and Asia.
