The Three Records That Arsenal's Saka Could Break If He Features Against Chelsea In Europa League Final
Published: May 29, 2019
Arsenal winger of Nigerian descent, Bukayo Saka is in line to break three UEFA Cup/Europa League final records if he features against Chelsea in Wednesday's showpiece in Baku, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The England U19 star is in contention to make the match day 23, having traveled with the first team to Azerbaijan on Saturday morning.
Should Saka make an appearance presumably off the bench, the Hale End Academy product would become the youngest player to feature in a UEFA Cup/Europa League final aged 17 years and 266 days.
He would surpass the record currently held by Ajax Amsterdam's Matthijs de Ligt, who was 17 years and 285 days when he played against Manchester United in the 2017 final.
If Arsenal were to win the Europa League and Saka gets playing time, he would become the youngest winner of the competition, surpassing the achievement of Arsenal legend Robin van Persie who was aged 18 years and 275 days when he played against Borussia Dortmund in the 2002 final.
Another Hale End Academy product of Nigerian descent, Xavier Amaechi (18 years and 144 days) could also break that record if he features.
The two Nigerians are also aiming to grasp the record for the youngest goalscorer in a Europa League final, a record currently held by Vágner Love, who found the net for CSKA Moscow against Sporting CP aged 20 years and 341 days.
