AFCON 2019 : Good To Have Mikel Back In Super Eagles But Musa Is More Needed By Rohr
Published: June 03, 2019
Mikel Obi is set to return back to the Super Eagles camp for the first time since his appearance against Argentina during the 2018 World Cup tournament in Russia.
The former Chelsea midfielder, who was dubbed 'African Zidane' during his short spell with Middlesbrough, will surely be a source of inspiration to many youngsters in Rohr's team.
His return is celebrated by many Super Eagles supporters because of the balance he brings to the team at the centre of the park.
As much as Mikel's return is a welcome development, his presence may not be as effective as Ahmed Musa's presence in Egypt.
The former Kano Pillars and CSKA Moscow winger is a household name in the country and his pace will be very needed in Rohr's tactics.
The Super Eagles manager relies so much on his attackers' pace to catch their opponents unaware with a swift counter attack, hence, Musa is expected to play a big role in Egypt.
Though Mikel's experience and current form can't be overlooked, the 32-year-old might fail to make much contribution to the team in this aspect due to his style of play which doesn't enhance counter-attacking moves.
Musa's recent goalscoring feat with the West African side is another reason why he's more needed by teammates in Egypt and he could be Rohr's secret goalscoring weapon during the much-anticipated tournament.
Talking of experience, the 26-year-old winger has featured in previous AFCON tournaments and he will surely guide his team-mates who will be at competition for the first time in their career.
