Six Super Eagles Players Who Must Impress Against Zimbabwe On Saturday
Published: June 04, 2019
The time is ticking, referees are preparing, managers are perfecting their tactics, players are getting ready and fans are in the mood to support their respective teams at the upcoming AFCON tournament in Egypt.
In this regard, the Super Eagles of Nigeria are currently in camp as they prepare for Zimbabwe's challenge in their first pre-tournament friendly scheduled to take place at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba.
Though the match is aimed at helping Rohr fine-tune his tactics, it also serves as an opportunity for the manager to assess his players before deciding the three players who will be axed out of the team.
This is why allnigeriasoccer.com believes these six players must impress against Zimbabwe whether they start or not.
Victor Osimhen
Osimhen is at risk of being dropped from the squad despite his awesome form for Charleroi this season. He must see Saturday's game as an opportunity to lay claim for a spot in Gernot Rohr's traveling list of players.
Leon Balogun
The centre-back will surely make the cut for the tournament but his place in the starting lineup is currently under threat, no thanks to Kenneth Omeruo's wonderful display for CD Leganes last season.
The Brighton & Hove star must pass a strong information across to Rohr by putting up a commendable display against The Warriors
Kenneth Omeruo
The Chelsea-owned centre-back was on fire throughout the campaign and his display in Saturday will go a long way to determine whether he will leapfrog Leon Balogun in the race for a spot in the starting XI in Egypt.
Kelechi Iheanacho
Tipped by fans to be the first player to be dropped from the squad , Kelechi Iheanacho must regain Rohr's trust by finding the back of the net on Saturday. Anything short of this could mean the end of the his dream of being at AFCON for the first time in his career.
Chidozie Awaziem
The Porto loanee is most likely to be cut out of the team as he is far behind Omeruo, Ekong, Balogun in the pecking order.
However, a wonderful performance against Zimbabwe could be enough to convince the highly conservative manager.
Semi Ajayi
Winning the Championship Player of the Month for March has surely boosted his reputation among Super Eagles fans, but he must prove his worth in front of the home crowd in Asaba.
He has a great chance of making the cut, but it is yet to be seen if he will get regular game-time in Egypt.
