Why A Manchester United Move For Ndidi In Next Transfer Window Makes A Lot Of Sense
Published: November 26, 2019
Manchester United have to contend with all sort of problems in the ongoing 2019/2020 campaign and it is within reason to postulate the Red Devils will have a busy winter transfer market.
Prominent among their activities is the quest for an astute midfielder who can help shore up their under-performing defence.
Their 3-3 draw with Sheffield United on Sunday was a damning indictment of their failings to stamp their authority in the middle of the park and see out games, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is already getting fed up with the below par showings of his midfield pivot of Fred and Andreas Pereira.
In truth, there is that dearth of quality midfield options currently at his disposal even with a cursory look at the squad: Paul Pogba has been ailing for much of the season, and has been joined on the sidelines by Scott McTominay, the duo of Nemanja Matic and Juan Mata are on the wrong end of 31 and might have played their best football.
That brings us directly to why the addition of Leicester City's midfield powerhouse Wilfred Ndidi could be the best thing to happen to the club this season.
Much has been said about how the Nigerian has seamlessly replaced N'golo Kante at the King Power stadium since his arriving Leicestershire from Genk and his impressive displays have continued yet again this season as Leicester continue an imperious push for the top positions in the Premier League.
Ndidi has already also been sounded out for another out-of-sorts side Arsenal, and the Gunners have long held an admiration for the 22-year-old, so it could be a realistic proposition for any of the parties he might to make a move before it descends into a bidding war for the youngster.
The Nigerian has been a top performer in the Premier League for Brendan Rodgers side and it is no gainsaying what could have been have they been left shorn of such quality like his when their opposition try to break or catch them out on the counter; the goals from Jamie Vardy, James Maddison and Ayoze Perez notwithstanding.
Their is a general belief that Ndidi's potentials will be better harnessed with a side playing European football and rightly so, as it will see him strut his stuff against some of the game's elites.
Leicester might eventually get to pull off a spot in an European competition at the end of this campaign going by their performances and standing on the division, but the Red Devils will only be adding a young and vibrant midfielder in the mould of former star Anderson should they succeed in bringing Ndidi to Old Trafford.
