Bayern Munich turn attention to Lookman after failed move for Chelsea striker
Published: August 31, 2025
Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are exploring the possibility of signing Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman from Atalanta following the collapse of their deal for Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson, according to The Athletic's David Ornstein.
The Bavarians had reached an agreement to bring in Jackson on loan with an option to buy, but Chelsea pulled the plug after Liam Delap suffered an injury during Saturday’s clash with Fulham, leaving the London club short of attacking options.
With the deal off, Bayern have now shifted their attention to Lookman and opened talks with Atalanta over a potential loan move.
The German giants have proposed a sizable loan fee with an option to make the transfer permanent at the end of the season for a significant sum.
Lookman is reportedly open to leaving Bergamo before the close of the transfer window, despite recently returning to training after pushing for a move to Inter Milan earlier this summer.
The Nigerian international has yet to make his season debut for Atalanta, fueling further speculation over an imminent exit.
With 24 hours left before the transfer window shuts, Lookman is keen to resolve his club future before switching focus to international duties with Nigeria.
He has been named in the Super Eagles’ 23-man squad for September’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Rwanda.
Nigeria currently sit fourth in Group C, six points adrift of leaders South Africa.
Lookman will be hoping to inspire the Super Eagles to vital victories and revive their qualification hopes for the tournament to be staged in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
