Derby County Looking To Sign Chelsea's Left-footed Nigerian Midfielder
Published: January 09, 2020Championship outfit Derby County are exploring ways to sign London-born Nigerian youngster Tariq Uwakwe, according to reports.
The Sun UK says The Rams are prepared to take Uwakwe on loan for the remainder of the 2019-2020 season.
Although the left-footed midfielder has yet to make his professional debut for The Blues, he is considered one of the top talents at the academy and was invited to train with the first team by former manager, Maurizio Sarri before a Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur in February 2019.
Derby County have done transfer business with Chelsea in recent seasons, with Fikayo Tomori and Mason Mount spending the whole of the 2018-2019 campaign on loan at the club, before they were promoted to Chelsea's first team upon their return to Stamford Bridge.
Uwakwe is desperate for first team football and was offered to French club Lyon last summer but nothing came out of it.
He later ended speculation about his future after penning a three-year contract with Chelsea in the close season.
Uwakwe originally joined Chelsea as an U9 and has progressed through the age groups at the Academy.
