'First Of Many More To Come' - Nigeria Target Saka Hopes His Future Is Secured By England
Published: November 16, 2020
Going by his social media post on Monday evening, Arsenal wing-back Bukayo Saka is hoping his international future is secured by the English Football Association in the coming days.
The Hale End Academy product was approached by the Nigerian Federation before winning his first England cap in a friendly against Wales last month.
Saka has emotional connection to the Nigeria setup because his father and mother are both Nigerians but he is on the verge of becoming a Three Lion for life.
If selected by manager Gareth Southgate in Wednesday's Nations League clash against Iceland, it would finally end the possibility of the 19-year-old representing Nigeria in future, based on the new FIFA eligibility rule.
Saka is targeting more international appearances for England after making his competitive debut off the bench in yesterday's loss to Belgium.
Writing on Instagram, he said : "Didn’t go the way we wanted it to last night but lots of positives to take from the game !
"On a personal note I’m very happy to play my first competitive game for @england which I hope is the first of many more to come ! ❤️🏴🦁".
Though the Nigerian Federation are set to miss out on Saka, they successfully beat England to the services of Everton's Alex Iwobi, Fulham's Ola Aina, Rangers' Joe Aribo and West Brom's Semi Ajayi.
