Official : Nigerian Striker Signs New Contract With Aston Villa
Published: January 18, 2021
With a statement on their official website, Aston Villa have announced that Nigeria-eligible striker Ruben Shakpoke has signed his first professional contract with the club.
Ruben has a famous dad; he is the son of former Super Eagles fullback Jero Shakpoke who was the national team's first choice right-back in the build-up to the 1998 World Cup, only for him to pick up a long-term injury before the start of the tournament in France.
Ruben Shakpoke initially joined Aston Villa on a scholarship contract last October but the deal has been upgraded to a professional contract.
"We are delighted Ruben has signed his first professional contract with us,Academy Manager Mark Harrison told the club's official website.
"His game time has been hampered by injury but once he his back fully fit we look forward to him fulfilling his potential, which is very clear to see."
