Nigeria-eligible winger reacts after scoring 18 minutes into his senior debut for Man City
Published: July 28, 2021
Premier League champions Manchester City began their pre-season preparations on a positive note by beating Championship side Preston North End 2-0 at the Academy Stadium on Tuesday night.
With several City players still on extended vacations following their participation in the 2020 European Championship and Copa America, manager Pep Guardiola has promoted exciting winger of Nigerian descent Samuel Edozie to first team training.
Aged 18, Edozie primarily plays for the U21 and U23 teams of the Citizens, making 20 appearances combined for the age groups over the course of the 2020-2021 campaign, whereas he featured in nine matches for the U18s with two of those coming in the FA Youth Cup.
The Anglo-Nigerian came off the bench at half-time against Preston North End, replacing Nathan Ake - his first appearance for Manchester City's first team, albeit in a non-competitive fixture.
It took Edozie eighteen minutes to open his account for City as he latched onto a through ball and slammed the ball home at the near post to double the home team's advantage.
The highly-rated youngster was pleased to score on his senior debut, posting on Instagram, ''Wow what a feeling🙌🏽, senior debut and a goal to go with it".
Manchester City saw off competition from Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Everton to sign Edozie for a fee of one million pounds in the summer of 2019.
