West Brom's match-winner vs Peterborough cracks Week 5 EFL Championship TOTW
Published: August 30, 2021
Semi Ajayi has been named to the EFL Championship Team of the Week by Whoscored following the conclusion of the matchday five fixtures.
His match-winning strike against Peterborough United on
Saturday night took West Brom to second in the EFL Championship standings, level on points with table toppers Fulham.
Prior to the visit to Peterborough, Ajayi had found game time hard to come by, logging only 67 minutes in the division, and this contributed to the decision of Nigeria manager Gernot Rohr to omit him from his latest squad list for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
In a 4-4-2 formation, the former Arsenal U23 skipper was partnered in central defence by Huddersfield Town's Matty Pearson in the Team of the Week.
Against Peterborough, Ajayi won a team-best 6 aerial duels, made a tackle, committed two fouls, made two clearances and was accurate in 41.4 percent of his passes.
Offensively, the central defender played three shots, completed one dribble, had one shot on target which ended up in the back of the net.
Ajayi's goal against The Posh was the 19th of his career in the Football League.
