Nigerian striker scores in consecutive matches for Chelsea Youth, brings career total up to 10 goals
Published: August 30, 2021
Bryan Fiabema's latest goal for Chelsea youth team counted for nothing as the Blues suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of West Ham United in a Premier League 2 clash at Rush Green Training Ground on Sunday afternoon.
The Norway youth teamer of Nigerian descent opened his account for the season in Chelsea's win on penalties against Exeter City in a Papa John's Trophy clash on August 24 and made it two goals in as many games when he got on the scoresheet in the first half against the Hammers U23s.
Fiabema and three other players of Nigerian descent were named in the starting eleven, the others being West Ham United trio Mipo Odubeko, Ajibola Alese and Armstrong Okolex.
Odubeko almost gave the home team the lead in the first minute when he charged down a goal-kick from Bergstrom and the ball looped narrowly over the bar, before Greenidge broke the deadlock in the fourth minute after capitalizing on a goalkeeping error.
Fiabema had the ball in the net in the 15th minute but the referee ruled that he was in an offside position when he received the ball.
Ten minutes before half-time, the Norwegian-Nigerian equalised for the Blues as he found the bottom corner with a brilliant strike, but the visitors came away with nothing from the game as Ashby slotted home in the eighth minute of second half stoppage time.
Since joining Chelsea from Tromso in February 2020, Fiabema has now tallied ten goals in all competitions, comprising six in the Premier League 2, two in the FA Youth Cup and one each in the U18 Premier League and EFL Trophy.
