Rohr reveals Aribo, Awaziem, Onuachu arrived Super Eagles camp late due to transfer problems
Published: September 01, 2021Nigeria manager Gernot Rohr has revealed that the trio of Glasgow Rangers midfielder Joe Aribo, Racing Genk striker Paul Onuachu and Boavista defender Chidozie Awaziem reported late for international duty because they were holding transfer talks.
A fourth Super Eagles player in Porto's Zaidu Sanusi has not yet linked up with the national team as at the time of this report.
The summer transfer window shut in major European Leagues on Tuesday night with the aforementioned players staying put at their respective clubs.
Aribo, Onuachu and Sanusi were linked with possible moves to the English Premier League, while Chidozie Awaziem was on the radar of teams in France and Turkey.
Speaking to reporters after Tuesday's workout at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Rohr said : "We are ready, we are still missing two players or three (Aribo, Onuachu, Awaziem), they will arrive tonight or tomorrow.
"These players were concerned by transfer problems so they could not be here with us since yesterday.
"It was a good training session today, I think the players are hungry, they want to win this match, we know that Liberia had a good preparation, they have George Weah who did everything to have a good team and we know it won't be easy."
