UDG Tenerife's Super Falcons striker makes Primera Division debut in 5-0 loss to Barcelona
Published: September 04, 2021
Super Falcons attacker Roosa Funmilayo Ariyo made her Primera División debut on Saturday afternoon, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Wearing the number 19 on the back of her jersey, the Finnish-Nigerian was introduced off the bench in the 59th minute as UD Granadilla Tenerife were thrashed 5-0 by Spanish and European champions Barcelona at Estadi Johan Cruyff (Sant Joan DespĆ) on the opening round of the 2021-2022 season.
The former Tikkurilan Palloseura star joined UD Granadilla Tenerife on a two-year deal in the off season.
It was a debut to forget for Ariyo as Barcelona began the defense of their title with an emphatic win against her team.
Bruna Vilamala (2), Alexia Putellas, Patri Guijarro and Claudia Pina got on the scoresheet for Barcelona.
On as a substitute in the 65th minute as a replacement for two-goal hero Vilamala, Super Falcons captain Asisat Oshoala missed a scoring opportunity in the closing minutes when she struck the woodwork with a shot from inside the area.
Oshoala and her teammates travel to Real Betis on matchday two and Ariyo's UD Granadilla Tenerife face Madrid.
