Ex-Nigeria U23 star Sadiq finds the net as 10-man Almeria beat Malaga
Published: September 04, 2021
Umar Sadiq was on target as Almeria made it three wins in four games after beating Malaga 2-0 at the Estadio de los Juegos MediterrĂ¡neos on Saturday night.
With the exception of Almeria's defeat to SD Amorebieta last weekend, the former Nigeria U23 international has either scored or assisted in all the matches he has played in the new season.
The score was still goalless at half-time but the Rojiblancos had chances to take the lead, putting two headers off target.
Almeria, a man down following the dismissal of Ivan Martos in the 46th minute, were a goal up in the 51st minute thanks to Sadiq with his second goal in the league this campaign.
The lanky Nigerian attacker rose highest inside the penalty area and put the ball out of the reach of goalkeeper Dani Barrio.
Central defender Juan Rivas went down in the penalty area and the allegation was that Sadiq climbed over him to direct his header but the goal stood despite the Malaga players appealing to the referee.

Juan Brandariz, with a close range header, doubled Almeria's advantage in the 58th minute.
Sadiq made way for Anglo-Dutch-Ghanaian striker Arvin Appiah in the 90th minute.
