2022 World Cup qualifier : Rohr reveals the one advantage Cape Verde have over Nigeria
Published: September 06, 2021
Manager Gernot Rohr has revealed that Cape Verde have one major advantage over the Super Eagles ahead of Tuesday's 2022 World Cup qualifying match at the Estádio Municipal Adérito Sena, Mindelo.
The former Bayern Munich defender believes that the Blue Sharks are in better physical condition compared to the Super Eagles.
Indeed, the German football tactician has a point there as the Cape Verde players have more time to rest having faced Central African Republic two days before Nigeria's clash with Liberia.
Considering the situation, it will be a difficult game for the Super Eagles but Rohr is backing his players, some of whom will be earning their first caps, to rise to the occasion.
"We prepared in Lagos with only three training sessions but the training sessions went well," Rohr told reporters at the end of training on Monday evening.
"The other team had two days more for recovery after the first game which they played in Douala.
"They played on Wednesday, we played only on Friday plus the traveling so it will be a physical challenge.
"That's why the training session was not too long today and we will be ready because I see that physically my players have still something to bring. Another night to recover and tomorrow afternoon they will be fit."

Rohr won't be able to count on the services of seven of his starters against Liberia, namely Ola Aina, Leon Balogun, William Troost-Ekong, Joe Aribo, Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi and Kelechi Iheanacho.
