Breaking : Super Eagles coach Rohr chooses goalkeeper to start vs Central African Republic
Published: October 07, 2021
Nigeria manager Gernot Rohr wasn't bluffing when he stated on Wednesday during the pre-match press conference that Sparta Rotterdam star Maduka Okoye was unlikely to be named in the starting line-up for Thursday evening's 2022 World Cup qualifier against Central African Republic.
The Franco-German has resisted the temptation to start his first choice goalkeeper in today's game after he reported for international duty late having missed his flight to Lagos.
Rohr dropped a major hint over his starting line-up during the team's first training session on grass, choosing Omonia Nicosia's Francis Uzoho to be in between the pipes for the Team A.
Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that the Super Eagles coach is sticking with his decision to name Uzoho in the starting line-up, a move which sees Okoye and Daniel Akpeyi drop to the bench.
Former Deportivo La Coruña star Uzoho has not played for the Super Eagles since earning his seventeenth cap in a 3-0 win over Lesotho in March 2021.
Of his seven clean sheets for the national team, five were in competitive matches and two in international friendlies.
