'They are now ready' - Rohr confirms Leicester, Genk strikers are in Nigeria's matchday 23 vs CAR
Published: October 10, 2021
Nigeria manager Gernot Rohr has confirmed that he will be able to count on the services of Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho and Racing Genk goal machine Paul Onuachu in Sunday afternoon's crucial 2022 World Cup qualifying match against Central African Republic in Douala.
Iheanacho picked up a knock during the first half of the Super Eagles matchday three fixture in Lagos, leading to his substitution at half-time, while Onuachu suffered an ankle injury in a training session at the Eko Hotels & Suites on Tuesday.
Nigeria have been handed a double injury boost with the duo training with the squad without limitation during the final workout in Lagos plus yesterday's session at Stade Omnisport de Bepanda.
In an interview with Africa Foot United, Rohr said : "The two injured that I had, have recovered, that is to say Onuachu and Kelechi Iheanacho.
"They are now ready, they will be able, in the 23, to participate or to give a hand, either at the beginning or during the match. I will have everyone at my disposal."
Rohr reiterated that he will tweak his starting line-up a little bit, bringing two or three new players to the starting XI.
"There will be changes from the team that started in Lagos. Obviously, we will refresh the team a little and we will try to bring something more compared to the first game."
Nigeria suffered a shock 1-0 loss three days ago at the Teslim Balogun Stadium after Central African Republic center forward Karl Namnganda
took advantage of a defensive mix-up between William Troost-Ekong and
Leon Balogun to slot past goalkeeper Francis Uzoho in the 90th minute.
