Iheanacho puts in full shift, Brentford's Onyeka impresses as Leicester win third game in a row
Published: October 24, 2021
Leicester City made it three straight wins in all competitions after beating Brentford 2-1 in a Premier League clash at the Brentford Community Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Kelechi Iheanacho made his third consecutive start in the top-flight, partnering Jamie Vardy in attack.
The Nigeria international was looking to continue his excellent form for the Foxes, with a goal involvement of six in his last five games before the visit to the English capital.
There was also a start for another Super Eagles star Frank Onyeka, who looked diligent in midfield, showing energy and desire.
However, the Foxes number 14, who put in a full shift, was quiet in the opening forty-five minutes as he wasn't often picked up by his teammates.
Against the run of play, Youri Tielemans gave Brendan Rodgers' side the lead with an absolute rocket from distance into the top corner in the 14th minute.
Patson Daka, who enjoyed a promising partnership with Iheanacho in the win vs Spartak Moscow on Wednesday, came on to replace the injured Vardy at half-time.
On the hour mark, Brentford finally got the goal they deserved and it was Mathias Joergensen who glanced a header past goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.
James Maddison restored Leicester City's one-goal advantage with fifteen minutes left to play, with Daka and Iheanacho involved in the build-up to the goal.
Brentford's Iran international Saman Ghoddos entered the fray in the 77th minute and it was the hardworking Onyeka that made way.
Eight minutes from time, Iheanacho had a chance to seal it for Leicester but didn't quite get the dip on the ball and his effort went over the bar.
Despite seven minutes of time added on, the Foxes were able to hold on to victory - their first back-to-back win in the Premier League since April 2021.
