Hoffenheim reveal exact nature of injury suffered by Super Eagles defender
Published: October 25, 2021
There is a question mark over the availability of Kevin Akpoguma for Hoffenheim's next domestic fixture, againstĀ Holstein Kiel in the second round of the DFB Pokal on Tuesday, October 26.
The former Germany U20 skipper had to be replaced in the 26th minute of the 4-0 defeat suffered at the hands of Bayern Munich two days ago.
What is clear is that Hoffeinhem have reported through their official website that the 26-year-old has suffered a facial contusion but the club did not disclose his estimated return date.
Akpoguma has not played a single match for the national team in 2021 largely due to injury problems, missing games against Benin, Lesotho, Cameron, Liberia and Cape Verde, and was only a reserve option for this month's games against Central African Republic.
Nigeria manager Gernot Rohr is already sweating on the fitness of Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi and Chidozie Awaziem before announcing his roster for the upcoming 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
The Super Eagles long-term injury absentee list currently comprises Watford midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo and Bologna's Kingsley Michael.
