2022 WCQ: Super Eagles winger Iwobi cannot wait to face Liberia and Cape Verde
Published: October 26, 2021
Alex Iwobi is eagerly looking forward to facing Liberia and Cape Verde in the upcoming 2022 World Cup qualifiers, according to Nigeria Football Federation supremo Amaju Pinnick.
The Everton winger was named on Nigeria's roster for this month's games against Central African Republic but was forced to withdraw from the squad after suffering a minor injury at his club.
Iwobi played an influential role as the Super Eagles began their World Cup qualifying campaign with a 2-0 home win against Liberia, setting up the two goals scored by Kelechi Iheanacho.
He was not released to the Nigeria Football Federation for the second group match against the Blues Sharks because Cape Verde is among the countries red-listed by the British Government due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
"I spoke extensively with Alex Iwobi, who cannot wait to feature in those all important games," Pinnick said in a press release.
Iwobi has since returned from injury and will be fit to face Liberia and Cape Verde, as things stand.
After the international break in October, the Hale End Academy product started against West Ham before coming off the bench versus Watford last weekend.
